How to Leave a Gift
Putting Avista Foundation into your will is a simple and tax-effective away to give. Legacy gifts are exempt from inheritance tax, meaning that your contribution will be able to create a larger impact for the people we support. Outlined below are the steps to making your contribution:
- Decide the Type of Gift: There are a few ways someone can leave a gift to a charity in their will. The most common are a residuary gift (a percentage of the estate after all other bequests have been made), a pecuniary gift (a fixed sum of money), or a specific gift (a particular asset such as property or shares).
- Contact a Solicitor: In Ireland it is recommended to use a solicitor to draw up or update a will. A gift to charity can be added to an existing will through a codicil (an amendment) without needing to rewrite the whole document.
- Provide Our Details: The will needs to include the charity's full legal name, registered address, and charity number to ensure the gift reaches the right organisation. For Avista Foundation that would be:
