What We Do

For over one hundred years the Daughters of Charity provided services to people with intellectual disability and to their families in the Dublin area. Many positive changes have occurred during that period. These changes include how services are delivered.

Today, Avista’s focus is person-centred, and the Avista Foundation works closely with Avista to deliver a range of vital and responsive support services, led by the preferences and needs of individuals.

When a capital project has been identified as an unmet need for supported individuals, Avista Foundation as the fund raising arm of Avista takes action. Avista Foundation provides initial support and advocacy, co-ordinating government capital assistance grants and donations, to fully or partially fund projects. Avista Foundation has raised and contributed €9 million to major projects at Bethel House, St Louise’s Glenmaroon and St Joseph’s Clonsilla, in 2001, 2006 and 2014. The finished buildings in the Glenmaroon and Clonsilla projects resulted in state of the art developments in both locations. Further support has also been provided in the form of facility upgrades, vehicles and donations.

Building and redevelopment projects supported by Avista Foundation over 15 years have included Sonas Project at St Josephs Clonsilla (2014), St. Louise’s Glenmaroon (2006) and Bethel House (2001).
